david holmes presents the free association
this is a proper recorded lp for a previously studio-only based group of musicians. the lp is a demonstartion of david holmes love of all music types normally vereing away from the current sounds of the charts.
taking a blend of rock, soul, r-n-b, hip-hop and melding them into a wonderful concoction with a real live band feel as opposed to a computer based sound the crew assembled are well established and know how to create the right feel.
in contrast to the short interludes that were present on the 'come get it' mix these tracks are far more song orientated, the vocals are provided by sean revron and petra jean philipson who were a double act back on the glorious exodus77 mini-lp a few years ago.
these two provide a superb conflict of styles. seans gruff ragamuffin/hip-hop chants interacting with petra's soul sista power richness compilment the grooves in an exquisite fashion. there are times you feel it shouldn't work in todays clean cut environment, but it does. there is an edge, a rawness, and downright sexiness on obvious aural display, something that most dance music misses. dance grooves are there for a reason, and that reason is sex. dancefloor courtship is not easy to pursue against a pounding 4/4 techno beat, david holmes has tapped into the lack of this element and decided to revive the real essence of dance .. this is one sexy mofo of an album.
and is due to be re-released later this year when 13 amp relaunches, so you have no excuse not to pick it up.
