6 track mini-lp to get the vibes up and running for the eventual appearance of the bands 'american whip' album for which glowing reviews appeared over a year ago just as 13 amp fell foul of finincial backing problems holding the lp in limbo for far too long.
now, many months later things are hopefully resolved, but to provide sonic thrills in the meantime we have this excellent mini-lp/ep/maxi-single. call it what you like. but make sure you add the words 'fucking excellent'. interestingly for us nerds this has been put out on the vertigo imprint, been a while since i seen anything with that logo !
the highlights are plentiful, but 'if i'm right' and 'gun control' have uptempo beats,layered buzzsaw guitars like real shoegazers used to, with melodies as sharp as a razor .. will the revivial of this girl fronted bubblegum guitarpop mean that my archive of darling bud records become highly sought after and pay off my mortgage ?
where joy zipper differ though is that the duo of vinnie and tabitha share vocal duties adding an extra element.
'1' has vinnie declaring 'you're the one' to sweetly layered backing vocals, hypnotic stuff, which then leads into the my bloody valentine twisted shards of guitar layers of gun control. trust me on this. you want insanely catchy old school indie guitar pop music like the primitives once threatened to make ? then go no further, just grab this and break out the smiles .. i fucking love it. '2 dreams i had' is all low key and mellowness like a lost americana classic, final track has vinnie on the lead and damn it's not fair, i want to be able to sing postparty comedown classics as swoonsome as this.
so if you're not happy that the dandy warhols have gone all duranie, and, you want to continue your love of classic song structures, subtle shoegazing effects and uplifting boy-girl harmonies then this is exactly what you've been waiting for.
the sonny and cher of the ubercool indie rock world are just waiting for the correct tv ad to propel them onto the world stage.
