bit naughty this as was never released officially, but once i heard about it i had to track it down. once again the joys of a well known auction website came to the rescue.
packaged as a bootleg with its cd-r appearance, its hand drawn red biro version of the free ass logo on the cover, this is a wonderful mixtape. taking the blueprint from the now in demand hip-hop mixtape genre, this is a 19 minute mix of the free ass album, but it's so much more as well.
as to be expected, there are snippets of various free assoc lp tracks. what i didn't expect is for this to be as wild and fun as it is. there are parts which are not from the from the lp but still obviously the free association, slapped and scratched against more lost soul, r-n-b golden nuggets. whoever put this together has also fused tracks from the 'come get it' mix and strapped them into the groove as well. what works especially well is the bootleg mashup of johnny jones and the king casuals version of purple haze and the free assoc track 'everybody knows', when placed together the result sounds as if they were meant to be partners in crime.
i read in one place that this mix was put together by old mo'wax crew the psychonauts. but i have yet to have this confirmed.
basically any fans of the recent unklesounds mixtape and the brainfreeze project from dj shadow/cut chemist should do their best to get their mits on this.
